Statewide Minimum Wage Increase
On January 1, 2020, the hourly minimum wage in Ohio will increase 15 cents from $8.55 to $8.70 for all non-tipped workers. The minimum hourly rate for tipped workers will increase from $4.30 to $4.35 - an increase of 5 cents. At Ohio State, the increase will affect approximately 3,500 non-tipped workers across the campus and 75 tipped workers.
To ensure the change coincides with the beginning of a pay period, OHR will centrally implement the increases to all employees affected by the minimum wage change effective December 22, 2019.
What you need to do:
- Use the $8.70 minimum wage for all new non-tipped employees beginning November 10, 2019 (beginning of pay period 25).
- Continue to enter terminations on a timely basis, especially those that will be effective in December.
